Effective July 27, 2021, all commercial dishwashers sold with the ENERGY STAR label will have to meet new, more stringent guidelines and testing requirements set by the ENERGY STAR program, a joint program between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. Hobart is ready with dishmachine models from across our entire product line that are certified to the new standards.
It’s been almost 10 years since the last update to ENERGY STAR requirements for commercial dishwashers were released. In that time, Hobart has made big advancements in technology that improve the energy efficiency of commercial dishmachines, from energy recovery technology that recycles heat into the booster, to wash systems designed for peak performance while using less water and energy. The new requirements take these advancements into consideration, and give consumers confidence that when they purchase an ENERGY STAR rated commercial dishwasher they are getting a product that meets updated standards for energy savings.
The new ENERGY STAR 3.0 criteria was developed through several rounds of webinars, stakeholder meetings and draft documents, with input from stakeholders across the industry, including a committee from ASTM International.

While there is no national requirement to purchase an appliance that is ENERGY STAR rated, some states have adopted regulations based on ENERGY STAR efficiency requirements. With these standards in place, states can decrease energy use, save consumers and business money, and reduce greenhouse gases and other pollutants. According to ENERGY STAR, if all commercial dishwashers were ENERGY STAR certified to version 3.0 standards, more than 4.3 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions would be prevented.
